New IKC Sterrenkwartier educational building provides peace and space for learning
The Sterrenkwartier Integrated Child Centre in Spijkenisse is a place where children aged 2 to 12 can learn, play, and develop. The building accommodates approximately 430 students and houses two primary schools and a daycare centre. One of the schools is CBS Marimba. Principal Annabelle van Wijk is very enthusiastic about the new building, which perfectly aligns with her ideas and the school's philosophy. “Personal leadership is central to our education. Every child can and should be proud of who they are.” Van Wijk looks back on a successful construction process.

"Malco gave me insight into the various roles and process steps. He was always very clear, made sure all parties were involved and kept a close eye on the interests of the client and end users. I could bring anything to him."

School leader, Marimba primary school in Spijkenisse
“In the new building, we wanted to stay true to the atmosphere of our old one. With calm, boundaries, and safety. I believe that children can only truly learn well when they feel comfortable and safe.”
Although the municipality of Nissewaard, which includes Spijkenisse, was the client, the end users had significant input on the design from the very beginning. For Van Wijk, this was a new role in a world that was new to her. She was guided by Malco van den Eijnde, who managed the project on behalf of Embera. Malco was involved from the very start, conducting a site study, coordinating the zoning plan amendment and design, and overseeing the tendering and construction.
"Where others might have dismissed it as a minor detail, Malco took it seriously and solved it because I felt it was important."
