The Dutch Masters, education and fun at Madurodam

Building this new attraction was an essential part of Madurodam's short-term growth strategy. Project management was outsourced for this purpose. How does it feel to hand over project management to an external party? Great! Thanks to the efforts of Embera.

In The Dutch Masters, children can immerse themselves in the colorful paintings of Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondriaan, Johannes Vermeer, Judith Leyster, and Rembrandt van Rijn. For the new attraction, an existing Madurodam attraction was renovated and a new entrance building was constructed.

The question the theme park asked itself was: “How can we ensure we have an experienced project manager on this project in the short term?”

“There are more projects in the pipeline for the coming years. With The Dutch Masters, we wanted to discover whether outsourcing project management adds value,” says General Manager Sander Gielen. “We want to distinguish ourselves by creating and shaping the most creative concepts. Establishing and maintaining structure in a construction project is a different ball game.”

"When unexpected challenges arose, the discussion was never about whose fault it was, but about the best solution, with respect for everyone's contribution and quality."

Embera added the structure Madurodam was looking for, Gielen explains. “Embera broke the project down into manageable steps. This made agreements, tasks, and responsibilities clear to everyone.” But Embera did more, such as selecting and managing suppliers and overseeing progress, quality, timing, and the budget. “You quickly end up with multiple suppliers at the table, all of whom have a role at a certain point and are dependent on each other's work. Embera knows how to solve that puzzle perfectly. If something didn't go smoothly, Embera's project managers ensured that piece fit as well, keeping the project moving. They were right on top of it.”

Embera is an external party, but quickly felt like a member of the Madurodam family, Gielen experienced. “Embera works openly and transparently. When faced with unexpected challenges, discussions were never about whose fault it was, but about a solution and how to do better next time. It was very solution-oriented, with respect for everyone's contribution and quality. That approach gave us the peace of mind and certainty that it would all work out.” With The Dutch Masters, the foundation for a long-term relationship has been laid.
